Yesterday afternoon, when the kids both got up from their naps, we went outside to play with Eli's squirt pool. Although she knows cameras are not toys, Alli decided to grab our
Canon EOS Rebel XSi and jump in the pool WITH THE CAMERA. I turned around and saw that she had the camera IN THE WATER. Needless to say, I freaked out a bit. The camera is ruined. The incredibly nice Canon technical support person (seriously, one of the nicest people I have ever talked to on a service call) said that once water is involved, there is usually no hope :( I was devastated. Alli knew Mommy was upset but being 3, she doesn't truly understand. She kept asking G when he was going to fix the camera. She has no concept of money. I know it was not done with malicious intent and she had no idea that putting it in water would break it. She did, however, know that it was not a toy and she should not have grabbed it.
Later that evening, once the kids were asleep, G and I talked about what to do. Okay, I admit, I did my fair share of crying. I couldn't figure out why I was so upset until we started talking and I kept coming back to how G surprised me with that camera the day Eli was born. Guess I'm a bit sentimental. We decided to buy a new camera and last night ordered the
Canon EOS Rebel T1i. We decided that since we were getting a new one anyway, we might as well upgrade. Hopefully, it will be here on Friday.
Here is one of the last pictures I took with our camera (from Tuesday's fun in the squirt pool). . .
Seems so fitting that it was of this happy little guy :)
What a shame...maybe USAA will cover that! Wow, Eli looks SOOOOO grownup on that shot.
ReplyDeleteOUCH! That is an expensive mistake... although I am half tempted to run my own Xsi camera out into my pool and see if I get to upgrade to the T1i myself! ;) I clicked some pics with my sis-in-laws T1i and LOVED it. It takes faster pics and has video mode. I may let Alli play with my camera when we are in town! ;) Sorry that you had to get a new camera, but excited about the upgrade!
ReplyDeletePS - I like the new family pic at the top of the blog! And that pic of Eli is pretty darn cute too. He is getting SO big!
ReplyDeleteI would have cried too. How exciting to get a new camera though! What lens(es) do you have?
ReplyDeleteThis story reminds me of the time Garrett opened up my camera...exposing all the film from my sorority reunion....he probably doesn't remember it, but I was not a happy mommy.
ReplyDeleteBarbie Gramma
You're right, I don't remember. You must be making it up or maybe it was Zach.......
ReplyDeleteLoved all the updates!! Hope you are loving the new camera! Thanks for talking the other night. Love and miss you!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Michelle
That is awful! I would have cried major! Glad you were able to upgrade! A mom without a camera is a terrible thing:)
